Curriculum Design
In addition to our Department's outreach of local and international guest artists and scholars, I also contributed curriculum design for the UHM Summer Outreach Program's "Asia Pacific Dance Festival Intensive", a for credit summer program that offers a rich curriculum of technical, artistic, and theoretical courses centered
on dance genres and cultural practices from Asia and the Pacific.
The intensive presenters were from dance companies from Hawai‘i, Fiji, Philippines, Korea, Okinawa, Tonga, Japan, and Malaysia.
Through classes by UHM faculty and featured artists, students embrace the physicality and artistry of distinct cultures by connecting movement to tradition, legacy, and values. Students participate in lectures and discussions that facilitate critical thinking and provide the insights to cultivate new perspectives, deepened understanding and personal growth.
